PU researchers won 2 PAAPAM Innovation Awards 2018


LAHORE: (Friday, March 9, 2018): Punjab University Faculty of Engineering and Technology has won 1st and 2nd prizes in Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) Innovation Awards 2018 in a countrywide competition of universities. A team of researchers from Department of Electrical Engineering & Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering participated in a competition of PAAPAM Innovation Award 2018 in Pakistan International Auto Show 2018 at Lahore International Expo Centre.

A research project titled “Automation of door system by using android application” by Engr. Osama Majeed Butt and Haider Javaid from Department of Electrical Engineering got 1st prize of amount Rs 75,000/- while research project “Development of Nickel-Chrome Flame Spray Coating on 304L Stainless Steel” by Dr. Aqil Inam, Prof. Dr. M. Taqi Zahid Butt, Arisha Nasik, Iqra Siddique and Shamin Bashir Shah from Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, University of the Punjab, Lahore was awarded the 2nd prize of an amount of Rs. 50,000. Pakistan International Auto Show 2018 organized by the PAAPAM was the largest exhibition in Pakistan with participation of more than 225 auto parts manufacturer and 75 Chinese companies in this auto show exhibited their products. As well as universities from all around the Pakistan participated in this exhibition and competed for the PAAPAM Innovation Award 2018. With skilled economic labor and academia-industry collaboration, Pakistan is becoming the future manufacturing hub for auto parts, especially in the case of tractors as Pakistan is producing the cheapest tractor in the world. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zakria Zakar has congratulated them on this achievement.
